We are always interested in encouraging and applying renewable energy resources wherever we can, and we have completed a wide variety of these types of projects. The Helene Project illustrates that we both know how to carry out renewable energy installations, and that we and our suppliers are community service oriented!

The following project description is excerpted from an article in the Bay Island Breeze: "Solar water-pumping station installed on Helene—In a cooperative project using donations from Vegas Electric and the employees of (now) Kyocera Solar, a couple of remote communities on Helene, Bay Islands, were recently able to complete an installation of a solar water-pumping system. The communities incurred significant damage from Hurricane Mitch in 1998, and were already long in need of a reliable water system. In the past they had relied on gasoline powered generators that had either worn out or been stolen. Vegas Electric employees carried a generously donated bank of six KC40 solar panels through the mud and jungle to the newly cleared site of an existing well and water-pumping station. They carried their donation of a new Solarjack submersible pump and a controller unit, and assembled the pre-tested materials on site. The water line was connected to the pump discharge hose and soon whoops of joy were heard from atop a nearby hill where a 1,000 gallon tank began to fill."
